Donald Trump said he had heard Andy Burnham was “extremely liberal”, in the US president’s first comments on Britain’s prospective prime minister.
Asked what he knew about the former mayor of Greater Manchester, Trump said: “I don’t know anything. I see that he was, I guess, the mayor of a town.
“I hear he is extremely liberal, extremely. So that means he probably won’t open up the North Sea,” Trump said on Wednesday at the White House.
