Aramco helicopter crashes at Saudi port as Gulf ceasefire frays

At least 14 killed in Ras Tanura incident just hours after US-Iran strikes threaten fragile deal to reopen Strait of Hormuz

A Saudi Aramco helicopter crashed at a Gulf port on Sunday, two days after Saudi Arabia resumed oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz and as Iran and the US traded strikes, threatening a fragile ceasefire.

The kingdom’s energy ministry said at least 14 people were killed in the crash, which occurred at 6am local time in the port of Ras Tanura. All those killed were Saudi citizens, it said.

No further details about the incident were available, but “the relevant authorities have launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash”, the ministry said in a statement carried by the country’s state news agency.
