Heavy smoke from wildfires in Ontario, Canada, has turned skies in Boston a hazy orange and prompted air quality warnings as far south as New York City as wind propelled contaminated air across the border.
Smoke spread across the US Midwest and Northeast from more than 100 active wildfires in Canada that were considered “out of control” on Wednesday, according to the government.
“Ontario fire crews and emergency responders are actively responding to wildland fires across the province, including challenging fires in the Northwest,” Mike Harris, minister of natural resources, posted on X.
