Chinese stocks on track for worst month in decade

Investors pull out of ‘picks and shovels’ suppliers to AI boom

Chinese technology shares tumbled on Thursday after “picks and shovels” suppliers to the AI boom were caught up in a global tech sell-off, putting mainland stocks on track for their worst month in a decade.

China’s CSI 300 index fell 1.1 cent on Thursday, dragged lower by heavy selling in businesses exposed to demand for AI data centre products.

The index has fallen 8.6 per cent so far this month, its biggest drop since January 2016. China’s CSI AI index closed down 5.8 per cent.
