Donald Trump has said his Board of Peace reached an agreement for the “complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza”, claiming a major breakthrough in peace talks in the Middle East.
A deal brokered by mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey would be carried out in “phases” and marked a “critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government”, the US president said in a post on his Truth Social platform on Thursday night. Trump added that Israeli forces would withdraw from the strip “as disarmament is completed”.
Hamas and the Israeli government did not immediately respond to the announcement.
