The UK is heading into a slowdown in GDP growth in the second half of 2026, according to the latest forecasts, extending a post-Covid pattern in which robust expansions gradually fizzle out as the year progresses.
After expanding by 0.6 per cent in the first quarter and 0.4 per cent in the second — the quickest first-half pace in the G7 — growth will drop to 0.2 per cent in the third quarter, according to the median prediction in a Treasury survey of economists.
GDP will expand by just 0.1 per cent in the final months of the year, the survey shows.
