Germany finishes construction of its first floating LNG import terminal

Completion of project in just 200 days eases fears of gas shortage amid cut in Russian supplies

Germany has finished construction of its first floating import terminal for liquefied natural gas, a crucial milestone in its efforts to end its energy dependency on Russia.

Germany has been striving to build new import infrastructure for gas since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, which led to a sharp decline in Russian gas supplies to Europe.
