N KOREAN LEADER MAY HAVE SUFFERED STROKE, SAYS US

Kim Jong-il, the North Korean leader, may have suffered a stroke within the past two weeks, a US intelligence official said yesterday.

“It does appear that Kim Jong-il has suffered a health setback, potentially a stroke,” the official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.

She said there had been no signs of a change in governing power and that assessing whether Mr Kim was still capable of governing would “call for a lot of speculation”.
