North Korea is threatening to expel United Nations food aid workers over a dispute with the US as tensions mount ahead of an expected missile launch.
Pyongyang has told Washington that it will expel the World Food Programme staff unless the US drops a demand that the workers include a number of Korean speakers, the Financial Times has learned.
Washington agreed last year to provide North Korea with 500,000 tonnes of food under a deal that would see the WFP distribute 400,000 tonnes and a consortium of non-governmental organisations led by MercyCorps handle the remainder.
