A Chinese businessman accused by US prosecutors of supplying Iran's nuclear and missile programme said yesterday he was unaware of the charges and denied his products were intended for military use.
Li Fangwei said, in a phone interview with the Financial Times, that his company, exported “common products”. He suggested that the US must be acting on false intelligence.
Mr Li said his company did little business with Iran after it was censured by authorities in China in 2003 and 2006 and the US froze some of its offshore assets in 2006. The Manhattan district attorney unsealed a 118- count indictment on Tuesday accusing Mr Li of setting up front companies to disguise sales to Iran that broke UN sanctions.
