A new, privately owned Hollywood studio launches on Monday with its founders promising to shake up the industry by focusing on cheaper films that cost no more than $10m to produce.
Unlike most of its larger studio rivals, which prefer to share costs with outside partners, DF Indie Studios will own 100 per cent of the films it produces, having raised $100m in funding from wealthy individual investors.
The group has created its own US distribution network, which means it can produce and distribute films without help from the likes of Warner Brothers, Paramount or 20th Century Fox.
