A suicide car bomber attacked the Indian embassy in Kabul yesterday, killing 17 people and raising the risk of fresh tensions in south Asia, where India has long accused rival Pakistan of sponsoring militant violence.
More than 70 people were wounded when the blast ripped through a city centre street during the morning rush hour, dismembering bystanders and mangling cars in the second big attack on the Indian mission in 15 months.
The US condemned the bombing. “It is another example of the Taliban's total disregard for the lives of the Afghan people, and we extend condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones in this despicable act,” the administration said.
