Public rejects key plans to tackle climate change

Public opinion on both sides of the Atlantic is firmly in favour of China taking on the lion's share of cuts in greenhouse gas emissions and lukewarm on providing funds to the developing world to adapt to climate change.

The findings, revealed in a Harris poll conducted for the Financial Times, will come as a blow to governments attempting to negotiate a new international framework on climate change.

Ministers from the world's biggest emitters are meeting today in London in the final stages of talks that will culminate in Copenhagen in December.
