The majority owner of Shenzhen Airlines, China's fifth-largest airline by assets, is being investigated by police for unspecified “economic crimes”, in the latest scandal to hit the loss-ravaged sector.
The company said yesterday that the police investigation into Li Zeyuan, who controls about 70 per cent of the formerly state-owned carrier, had not affected the airline's operations.
It said the entire airline and all its operations were now under the command of Li Kun (who is no relation to Li Zeyuan), Shenzhen Airline's president and a former senior government aviation official.
