Institutions lukewarm on Bolton's new China fund

Anthony Bolton, the fabled fund manager, is facing a rare event - a setback.

For decades, he could do no wrong. During his time managing Fidelity's Special Situations fund - which grew so popular with retail investors that Fidelity had to split it into two - he returned nearly 20 per cent a year on average to investors over 28 years.

So it was little surprise that Mr Bolton's much-hyped return to fund management - announced last November two years after he had retired from the industry - was met with near-fanatical excitement by investors and financial advisers alike.
