Acer in push for bigger China share

Acer, the world's second-biggest PC maker, is beefing up its sales force in order to increase market share and take on its rival Lenovo in its home market of China.

The Taiwanese company plans to hire an additional 1,000 marketing staff and increase advertising spending in China this year, which it hopes will help it achieve its goal of almost doubling its China revenue to $1.5bn this year. It aims to raise its market share to 10 per cent, from about 7 per cent at present.

“There is still a lot of room to grow in China,” Gianfranco Lanci, president of Acer, said.
