Businesses from the north-west are in China this month seeking to exploit Liverpool's presence at the Shanghai Expo to do deals.
Liverpool, which is twinned with Shanghai, is the only UK city other than London to be invited to the event, dubbed the "business Olympics" by one diplomat.
The city is showcasing the north-west region and offering the world's second-biggest economy access to it. Shanghai alone accounts for 8 per cent of China's gross domestic product and is growing at more than 10 per cent annually.
