Four leading economies have called on G20 governments sharply to increase contributions to a fund to help poor countries achieve food security, amid fears that aid promises are being broken.
The US, Canada and South Korea said that a global trust fund administered by the World Bank, set up in the aftermath of aid pledges at the G8 meeting in Italy in 2009, was critically short of funds.
A letter sent this week to other G20 members, seen by the Financial Times, said that nearly $1bn in requests from developing countries had been made to the fund, and, having already disbursed $224m, it had only $130m left.
