When Acer, the Taiwanese PC maker, announced a partnership in China with local rival Founder in May, it attracted little attention, with both companies considered also-rans.
Lenovo leads in its Chinese home market, with 30 per cent of all shipments. HP and Dell are the only other players with a sizeable share.
But the Chinese PC market – expected to become the largest in the world by unit shipments next year at the latest – could be in for a shake-up as Acer prepares to pounce.
