Armani set to launch Chinese online site

Armani Group will today launch an e-commerce site for its Emporio Armani brand in China as the luxury goods sector seeks to extend its appeal among the fastest-growing consumers of high-end wares.

More than one-third of the world’s most populous nation are web users and the launch of the Emporio Armani site – a first by any major luxury goods house and which is being created and managed by Yoox Group, a luxury e-commerce specialist – comes as luxury goods companies are increasingly turning to the internet for growth.

John Hooks, deputy chairman of the Armani Group, said it was “impossible to exaggerate the importance of China for us, as for everyone, and e-commerce is about reaching out to that”.
