Julian Assange, the freedom of information campaigner who has been in prison for the past week, has been granted bail by a London court while he fights extradition to Sweden to face sexual assault charges.
Howard Riddle, chief magistrate at City of London magistrates’ court, said he was willing to grant bail provided certain conditions were met.
Mr Assange, who has embarrassed the US by leaking thousands of confidential diplomatic cables, has been in custody for the past week after being denied bail in connection with the alleged sexual offences.
