Huawei sues over Motorola unit sale

Huawei has asked a US court to block the $1.2bn sale of Motorola Solutions’ wireless telecommunications network business to its rival, Nokia Siemens Networks.

The Chinese telecoms equipment maker, once a partner of Motorola on wireless networks, lost out to NSN in an auction for the Motorola assets last year, in spite of offering a higher price.

Huawei claims that the sale of Motorola’s mobile network equipment business to NSN could lead to “trade secret misappropriation, copyright infringement and breach of contract”. It claims it would suffer “irreparable harm” if confidential information about its wireless telecoms business is not protected and is seeking an interim order blocking the sale “until this matter can be arbitrated”.
