China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, reported a higher-than-expected 6.3 per cent increase in net profit for the first six months of this year.
The increase was driven by higher mobile data services such as wireless internet access.
Net profit rose to Rmb61.28bn ($9.6bn), from Rmb57.64bn during the same period last year. Operating revenue was Rmb250.1bn, up 8.8 per cent from the first half of 2010.
