The US administration yesterday defended its policy towards trade with China but continued to show caution over proposed legislation to punish Beijing for undervaluing its currency, writes Alan Beattie in Washington.
Under intense questioning from the House of Representatives ways and means committee, Demetrios Marantis, deputy US trade representative, said the US had brought a range of cases against Beijing.
“We take action on every front that China puts in front of us,” he said. “We are going to keep pushing and use all the tools we have.”
