Huawei finds rare ally in White House hopeful

The US government’s attitude towards Huawei Technologies is unambiguous: the Chinese technology company’s efforts to expand in the US have been blocked by a White House and Congress that is suspicious of the company’s intentions.

But the company has received a warmer welcome in at least one important market and with one important politician: Rick Perry, the Texas governor and Republican presidential contender.

At a celebration of the company’s expansion of its headquarters in Plano, Texas, a year ago, Mr Perry said Huawei’s decision to invest in his state was a reflection of his administration’s business-friendly credentials. But, as a video posted by Mr Perry’s office on YouTube showed, he did not stop there.
