Troops on Moscow streets as tensions rise

More than 1,000 demonstrators gathered yesterday for a second evening of protests over flawed parliamentary elections, defying a show of force by the Kremlin in which thousands of troops and army trucks were deployed on Moscow’s main streets.

Scores were manhandled into police vans, including Boris Nemtsov, an opposition leader and former deputy prime minister.
