D Telekom settles bribery case

Deutsche Telekom and its Hungarian subsidiary Magyar Telekom will pay US authorities $95.2m to settle allegations that executives had bribed government officials in Montenegro and Macedonia.

The US Department of Justice agreed not to criminally charge Deutsche Telekom and Magyar with corruption under the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for two years, during which time the companies must strengthen internal controls and refrain from breaking US law.

The Securities and Exchange Commission also settled its FCPA claims against the telecoms providers, though the companies neither admitted nor denied wrongdoing in connection with its civil charges.
