Heathrow strike threatens to disrupt Olympics

Thousands of Home Office staff in the UK, including immigration workers at Heathrow airport, are to mount a 24-hour strike the day before the opening of the Olympics in a dispute over jobs, pay and privatisation.

The Public and Commercial Services Union said its members would walk out next Thursday and would also take other forms of industrial action, such as a ban on overtime, from July 27 to August 20.

The action will affect border controls at ports and airports including Heathrow, threatening disruption to people travelling to London for the games.
