Volvo considers scaling back truck output after US orders plunge

Volvo, the world’s second-largest truckmaker, has said it might cut production after a slump in orders in the second quarter largely caused by a weakening of confidence in the US .

“Current lower demand means that we are manufacturing at a pace which is slightly too high,” said Olof Persson, chief executive.

The company’s global order intake of 53,000 trucks was 19 per cent lower than during the same quarter last year while North American new orders plunged 47 per cent to 15,314.
