Sir David Tang, entrepreneur and founder of ICorrect offers advice on questions about property, interiors – and modern manners for globetrotters
Could you give us advice on enjoying Chinese culture? Food is an easy one, but how good is the furniture, especially those wooden sofas?
It is not easy to enjoy Chinese food when so much of it is so awful, particularly across America where it is made worse by elephantine portions. In Britain, thousands of takeaways also dish out one-dimensional chop-sueys, which literally means “left-overs”. So we should be more fastidious about decent Chinese food, especially avoiding that addictive MSG (monosodium glutamate), which opens up the pores of our tongues in order to enhance artificially our taste buds. This is a really bad chemical and I ban it in all my establishments.
