Macao police raided casinos and hotels and detained 150 people during the weekend as part of an effort to curtail violent crime in the Chinese territory, which is home to the biggest gambling market in the world.
The former Portuguese colony has been rocked in recent weeks by an attack on a prominent business man and the murders of three Chinese women in two separate incidents.
Analysts said the resurgence of crime reflected tighter credit conditions in the gambling market, which has long relied on Chinese so-called junket operators bankrolling clients who gamble in the city’s casinos.
