China has landed a fighter jet on an aircraft carrier for the first time, a step towards bolstering its military power that comes as geopolitical tension grows in Asia.
The defence ministry published photographs yesterday of fighter jets taking off from and landing on the deck of the Liaoning, China’s maiden aircraft carrier, which entered service two months ago.
The ministry said the test flights had been a success and called them “a crucial step” in the development of the carrier.
