Apple’s revenues in China rose 67 per cent to $6.8bn in its fiscal first quarter of 2013, the first time it has broken out the region as a standalone unit, write Tim Bradshaw and Pan Kwan Yuk.
Year-on-year growth in greater China – which in Apple’s definition includes Hong Kong and Taiwan – is more than twice as fast as the next nearest region, Japan, and outstrips the 15 per cent rise seen in the Americas or 11 per cent in Europe.
Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, said in an interview this month that he expected China would soon become Apple’s largest market.
