Huawei’s flagship smartphone is called the ‘Ascend’ – an apt name, given the company’s rapid rise from cheap technology imitator to Asian industrial powerhouse, in just a few years.
But the ascent is far from over, stresses Guo Ping, chief executive of the Chinese telecoms equipment maker. In his first interview with foreign media, he makes his ambitions in the global telecoms market clear.
Having achieved 10 per cent growth in revenue, to $35bn, in 2012, Huawei will continue to focus on research and development in the year ahead, Mr Guo says – as well as simplifying its management structure and improving efficiency.
