North and South Korea reach Kaesong deal

North and South Korea have reached an agreement aimed at resuming operations at the Kaesong Industrial Complex, three months after the inter-Korean project was closed.

The tentative deal was announced on Sunday after marathon talks that marked the first official meeting between the countries for more than two years. The meeting was held on the northern side of the border post at Panmunjom, three weeks after a previous attempt at discussions fell apart over protocol issues.

The industrial park, which is located about 10km north of the heavily armed border, was the sole remaining inter-Korean economic project until North Korea withdrew its 53,000 workers in April at the height of tensions on the peninsula.
