China has ratcheted up its anti-corruption campaign, arresting the chief regulator of state-owned companies, the highest-ranking official to be placed under investigation by the country’s new leaders.
Xinhua news agency announced yesterday that Jiang Jiemin, head of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, was suspected of “severe disciplinary violations”. Its one-line statement added that the Communist party’s disciplinary body was investigating him.
Mr Jiang is the first minister to face a probe since Xi Jinping became general secretary of the Communist party in November.
