The mayor of Nanjing has been placed under investigation, the latest high-ranking official to get tripped up by China’s anti-corruption campaign.
Ji Jianye, who served as mayor of the eastern Chinese city of 8m people since 2010, is suspected of “severe violations of discipline and law”, the Communist party’s central commission for discipline inspection said in a one-line statement yesterday.
It provided no further details, but such cases are almost always handed over for criminal prosecution after several months.
