If the Scots exit, flag and country will need to be redrawn

With polls suggesting that a No vote in the Scottish referendum is no longer a certainty, discussion is increasing about how an independent Scotland might look. Almost no thought has been given to the rest of Britain. Yet almost every aspect of national life would need to be reconfigured.

For example . . .

THE FLAG The Union Jack is dominated by the Scottish connection, which is responsible both for the white, diagonal St Andrew’s cross and the blue background. Yet Wales is not represented. Logically, Wales’ yellow cross of St David should join the red horizontal and vertical of St George and red diagonal of St Patrick on an English white background.
