Although China has kept the door to its equity market closed, it has just opened a pretty big window.
Under a pilot scheme announced jointly by Hong Kong and Chinese regulators yesterday – and endorsed personally by Li Keqiang, China’s premier – global investors will soon have a new route into mainland equity markets.
In return domestic investors in China will get access to shares listed in Hong Kong, as part of the so-called Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect scheme.
