Ukrainian forces launched special operations to dislodge pro-Russian forces yesterday from at least two cities in the east of the country, with the acting president saying troops had retaken a provincial airport.
A senior Russian official immediately warned that Moscow was “deeply concerned” by media reports of casualties in the operations.
Oleksandr Turchynov, Ukraine’s acting president, said special forces had retaken control of an airport at Kramatorsk, while state security bodies said operations were under way both there and in the nearby town of Slavyansk.
