It is time to let our phones roam free

Walking in Frankfurt last week, I began to worry I was going in the wrong direction. There was an easy way to check. The map on my company iPhone would show either that I was heading towards the river, which would be good, or away from it, which would not.

But to do that, I needed to turn on “data roaming”, which is dangerous to do outside your own country. Many organisations have a story about the person who ran up an enormous bill by watching a YouTube video on a business trip.

The Telegraph this week reported that a British maths teacher was charged £2,600 after downloading a Neil Diamond album while she was on holiday in South Africa.
