A British exit from the EU is “unimaginable”, according to Germany’s powerful finance minister, and Berlin will do
everything in its power to keep the UK in the union after the clash over Jean-Claude Juncker’s appointment as European Commission president.
Wolfgang Schäuble told the Financial Times an EU without its island neighbour would be “absolutely not acceptable”, ahead of Europe’s largest economy taking over the presidency of the Group of Seven industrialised nations tomorrow.
