At the end of a crucial meeting on legal reforms, the Chinese Communist party revealed that one of its most senior military figures had confessed to taking “extremely huge” bribes.
Xu Caihou, a former vice-chairman of the party’s Central Military Commission, became the second highest ranking official purged by President Xi Jinping, the Xinhua news agency said yesterday, citing military prosecutors.
Mr Xu’s reported confession coincided with the release of the full report of the party’s annual plenum, a gathering of more than 360 senior leaders who meet each autumn to set out priorities for the following year.
