Walmart cuts staff in China

Walmart is laying off about 30 mid-level managers as part of a larger restructuring of its China business, a company executive confirmed on Thursday.

Last year, the world’s largest retailer said it would close about 20 stores in China while also pledging to open an additional 110 outlets and hire 19,000 more people by 2016.

“We have reached mutual agreements for them to leave the business,” Ray Bracy said, adding that those affected were a “mid-level group” of predominantly local hires.
