A hoax caller claiming to be the head of the spy agency GCHQ was put through for a conversation with David Cameron, Downing Street was forced to admit last night.
Mr Cameron is said to have ended the call when he realised the caller was an imposter, but Downing Street ordered an immediate review of security procedures.
In another embarrassment, it emerged that a mobile phone number for Robert Hannigan, director of the GCHQ eavesdropping centre, was given out.
