Chinese consumer sentiment at lowest in 5 months

Chinese consumer sentiment has dipped again this month, to its lowest level since November according to a closely-watched monthly survey.

The Westpac MNI China Consumer Sentiment Indicator fell to 111.1 in April, down from a reading of 114.7 in March. In November it was 111, and the reading for this month is not far off its lowest-ever point of 110.8, recorded in September 2011.

China's economy, which has enjoyed some of the fastest growth rates in the world in the past two decades, is now slowing and policymakers recently said they will target economic growth of "around 7 per cent" this year — the slowest expansion in a quarter century.
