Rupert Murdochis to share power at 21st Century Fox with his sons James and Lachlan as Chase Carey, the company’s most senior non-family figure, gives up his operational responsibilities.
The chief executive role will be passed to James Murdochfrom his father, while Lachlan Murdochbecomes co-chairman. Rupert Murdoch will continue to be executive chairman and remain the leading figure at the company, according to people familiar with the matter.
Mr Carey — seen by investors as a skilled executive and steadying influence — is stepping down as operating chief but will stay on as an adviser. His contract expires next summer but he has an option to leave in December.
