Thailand’s military rulers are scrambling to shore up confidence in the country as they intensify their hunt for the suspected perpetrators of Bangkok’s deadliest bomb attack.
Television channels interrupted normal programming on Wednesday to show messages in English and Chinese to reassure foreigners, after this week’s blast at the packed Erawan shrine that killed at least 20 Thai and overseas nationals.
Authorities say they are looking for multiple suspects, led by a young man in a yellow T-shirt they say was captured on closed-circuit television dumping a rucksack at the shrine shortly before the explosion. Police issued a sketch of the suspect and announced a 1m baht ($28,000) reward for information leading to him or accomplices in what some officials have suggested may be a network of bombers.
