National home prices rose in August in 35 out of 70 cities from the previous month, according to China's National Bureau of Statistics. Prices rose in 31 cities in July, writes Peter Wells.

According to calculations by Reuters using those NBS numbers, new home prices in the 70 cities were down 2.3 per cent in August, versus a -3.7 per cent decline in July. The declines have now narrowed for the fourth month in a row and the rate of decline is the smallest since September last year.
