France and US to ramp up air strikes after Paris terror attacks

France and the US have pledged to step up air strikes against Isis strongholds as they scramble to respond to the deadly Paris attacks that shocked the west on Friday night, killing 132 people and injuring more than 350.

Preparations for an “intensified” phase against the Islamic terrorist group in Syria came as France and Belgium launched a manhunt for a suspected eighth assailant named Abdeslam Salah in an assault deemed “an act of war” by president François Hollande. Seven terrorists died on Friday night after six set off their explosives and another was shot by the police.

French prime minister Manuel Valls has suggested that the state of emergency giving sweeping new investigating powers to police forces could be extended beyond 12 days, which would require a vote in parliament.
